Coconut and its cultivation

- drinking coconut juice is the best way to beat the summer heat and quench one's thirst
- Hainan, China, has more than 2000 years of history in coconut cultivation
- coconut is a typical summer fruit
- sufficient sunlight, abundant rainfall, low sea altitude and coastal regions suit their growth the most
- common folk saying in Hainan, that coconuts have souls and won't drop on good people

- some say farming involves 3 dimensions: dirty, difficult and dangerous
- if the skin is thick and unwrinkled, and the sound of water is audible, it means the coconuts can be harvested
- coconuts are tropical plants which can withstand strong winds

- growing in breezy coastal regions stimulates their output
- picking of coconuts in the morning 8am till around noon
- about 1200 coconuts are loaded onto a lorry (1min pick 5 coconuts on ave)
- fill 2 lorries a day to be delivered to the factory to be sold for their juice

- daily output of coconut candies alone comes up to 20 tonnes- coconut can also be cooked to produce titillating food
- coconut stuffed with glutinous rice and steamed for 8 hrs is a famous Hainan snack
- tastes like the Thai dessert, glutinous rice mixed with mango
- the coconut milk is aromatic and the mature coconut skin is crunchy and flavourful
