Pregnancy wheel

- at week 1-4 of pregnancy, conception occurs about 2 weeks after last menstrual period
- at 4 weeks, embryo weighs less than 30g
- pregnancy test may be positive

- at week 5-8 of pregnancy, baby's major organs and central nervous system begin to form
- facial features - eyes, ears and mouth start to develop
- brain cells growing rapidly
- pregnant mum has tender breasts, frequent urination, nausea

- at week 9-12 of pregnancy, baby begins to move
- head is abt 1/2 of total body length
- genitals can be recognised as male or female by the end of week 12
- toes, fingers, nose, lips and chin begin to form
- pregnant mum experience tiredness, weight gain

- at week 13-16 of pregnancy, soft cartilage in abdomen starts becoming bone
- skin is thin and transparent
- kidneys begin to function
- pregnant mum has headaches, vaginal secretions noticeable

- at week 17-20 of pregnancy, heartbeat can be heard
- fingernails, toenails, eyelashes and eyebrows formed
- baby can smile and squint
- fingerprints start to form
- pregnant mum feel nausea and vomitting usually stop, energy level picks up

- at week 21-24 of pregnancy, baby can hiccup and suck its thumb

- at week 29-32 of pregnancy, fat begins forming under the skin
- there's less amniotic fluid and less room in the uterus
- 96% of all babies settle into a head-down postion at this stage
- pregnant mum has mild swelling of hands and feet are also often noticeable

- at week 33-36 of pregnancy, bb can smile, frown, stretch, yawn and react to touch through the abdominal wall
- lungs digestive system and heat control system continues to develop
- pregnant mum is easily fatigued, backaches are common

- at week 37-40 of pregnancy, bb may settle into a quiet stage
- growth rate slows, and by week 40, sucking reflexes, lungs and breathing reflexes are fully matured
- pregnant mum may find difficulty sleeping and getting up and down

- about 5% of babies are born post-term (more than 2 weeks past their estimated arrival date)
